Painsley Win Partnership Games
By on 26 January 2010
Year 8 students from Painsley Catholic College were victorious at the Partnership Games recently. The Partnership Games is a new sporting event, which was launched across the Staffordshire Moorlands last year, aimed at students who have never represented the school in competitive sport. Year 9 BTEC students from the school were asked to organise the games as part of their course. The event held at Fenton Manor over two separate weeks was a great success. Nine schools were involved and over 300 students took part. The BTEC students received very high praise from the Schools’ Sports Co-ordinator and the Competitions Manager for the Staffordshire Moorlands and Newcastle. The Year 8 students who represented Painsley were all selected based on their involvement or potential involvement in PE and school sport. Thirty two students travelled to Fenton Manor to compete in four different sports – this year’s chosen sports were sports hall athletics, kwik cricket, dodgeball and football. Students were split into four teams and competed in a round robin tournament. The overall trophy was given to the school who scored the highest points across the four sports. Painsley won the games and retained the trophy. A spokesperson for the school said “Everyone involved had a fantastic time and it was great to see all students trying their best to compete”. We congratulate the students on this wonderful achievement.
