Students Perform Guys & Dolls
By on 08 February 2010
Painsley Catholic College was transported back to 1950s New York City this week with their school production of the Broadway musical Guys and Dolls. The story revolves around betting: cash-strapped Nathan Detroit, the cheeky organiser of the city’s games of Snake Eyes (Crap Games), is under pressure and needs to pay cash for his next safe house for the game and so bets with Sky Masterson, the king of ridiculous bets, $1000 that he cannot take a good Christian mission girl (Sarah) to Cuba on a date. Distracted by his long serving fiancé, the glamorous Miss Adelaide, Nathan is pulled between the two loves of his life – his doll and his gambling – as we watch to see the consequences of the two men’s gambling develop before our eyes. This show truly has been a fantastic team effort by members of the Creative Arts Faculty and of course the many other departments throughout the school who have always strived to support the school’s annual shows. Performed over three nights, packed audiences were amazed by the singing, dancing and acting skills of students from Year 7 to Year 13. Mrs Caroline Whitehead, Head of Drama, commented, “This has been one of our most ambitious shows, but the students have worked diligently to master this, one of Broadway’s most famous shows. Well done to everyone involved.”
