English at Painsley is taught as a common course adapted to all abilities at KS3. In KS4, most pupils study AQA English Language and Literature and at KS5 there is opportunity to study either AQA Language or Literature – or Media Studies - at AS/A2. The department have a range of interests and approaches that are shared to keep the courses fresh and challenging. Exam results at all Key Stages are excellent and take up in the 6th form is high and increasing. The department offer a range of extra-curricular trips and activities that enrich the experience beyond the classroom, such as theatre trips (most recently to Birmingham, Manchester and London)and visits to places associated with the topics being studied, such as Haworth and Eyam and lunchtime groups involving creative writing, book groups and Media Challenge.
