Extra Curricular

For year 7 and 8 a puzzle club is run each week where student are given the opportunity to develop their problem solving skills.   The Chess Club is open to all year groups.

Other extra curricular activities include school based events as part of the specialist school programme.  These have included a Probability Road Show, BP Trading Challenge (trading oil stocks and shares), Enigma Day (code breaking activities and looking at the world war II Enigma machine) and the Jaguar Cars “Maths in Motion” challenge.  Students are also given the opportunity to participate in World Maths Day.

Each year groups of students from years 7 to 13 participate in the annual UKMT Maths Challenges.  This is a competition where students try to answer some multiple choice questions which are both intriguing and challenging.  There are three levels, junior, intermediate and senior, with certificates for those who do well.  The best students can also progress to the next rounds of the competition.

There is an annual trip out of school for year 8 have which has included the Leicester Space Centre and “Thinktank” at the Birmingham Science Museum.
