Students in Years 7-8 have fortnightly Drama lessons with a subject specialist. In Year 7 students are introduced to a wide range of warm-up exercises, dramatic techniques, and by the summer term are beginning to use a mixture of dramatic techniques more creatively and learning how to make Drama from a range of stimuli including scripts, images, music, poetry and newspaper articles.

In Year 8 students further their practical skills and theatrical knowledge by following a course entitled The History of Theatre. Students learn about Ancient Greek theatre by studying Aristophanes’ The Frogs, mediaeval mystery plays, Shakespeare’s Hamlet, Moliere’s Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme and Victorian melodrama. They finish by exploring contemporary physical theatre techniques.
