Science and Maths

Having Science, Maths and Computing as the specialisms at our College means that there is a strong commitment to STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths).  This has seen the development of many curriculum innovations such as the introduction of the STEM Leadership BTEC.  We lead the regional hub for this qualification, working closely with other high schools and Sheffield Hallam University.  Painsley Catholic College is also the regional lead for STEM Clubs and as such offers CPD to colleagues.  Our work is presented both regionally and nationally.

The college engages families in STEM learning through STEM family evenings and guest speakers such as Dr Mike Leahy from Sky’s ‘Bite Me’ series and the BBC’s Horizon.

There are many enrichment opportunities in STEM at Painsley, such as the Engineering Education Scheme, Greenpower racing car, STEM club, science club, Jaguar Maths in Motion challenge and STEM whole school citizenship events.   The Smallpeice Trust regularly deliver engineering challenges to students and other guests have included Cambridge University’s maths outreach team with the WWII Enigma machine and the probability road show.
