We follow the exciting EDEXCEL B course at GCSE level, taught over three years.
The course is modular, Unit 1, ‘Dynamic Planet’ looks at the natural world and human’s impact upon it and we need to act sustainably in the future to protect our environments. This unit (25%) is examined in June of Year 10
Unit 2, ‘People and the Planet’ looks at the world of human activity in more detail, including an in-depth analysis of Globalisation and its impact on the world economy. This unit (25%) is examined in January of Year 10.
Unit 3, ‘Making Geographical Decisions’ presents students with a topical geographical issue and examines their ability to come up with a well-reasoned and argued justification as to how they think that issue can and should be managed going forward. This unit (25%) is examined in June of Year 11.
Unit 4, ‘Controlled Assessment’ (25%) gives students the opportunity to collect data and write up a report on a pre-selected title, under the watchful eye of their teacher!
To support the work undertaken, we visit the River Dane in the Peak District National Park to collect data for Unit 4 and run a 5 day residential for students to Cornwall in July of Year 10 to support the topics which we have looked t as part of the whole of the GCSE course.
