KS5 - Years 12 and 13

During years 12 and 13 pupils follow the Edexcel Advanced History Course

Year 12

During year 12 students study two units, each worth 50% of their overall AS Level. Students study the Changing Role of Women 1860-1928 with a particular focus on the Suffrage Question. The focus of the examination is source analysis and interpretation with reference to students’ wider knowledge. For the other section of the course students study the Unification of Italy and the Growth of Fascism in the Twentieth Century.

Year 13

During Year 13, students complete a piece course work which constitutes 40% of their overall A2 grade. The focus of this study is the Tudor Monarchs from Henry VII to Elizabeth I. For their exam, students examine the changing nature of Germany studying the birth of the Kaiser Reich to the coming of the Fuhrer; Germany 1900-1945. The unit develops students’ skills of analysis and evaluation as well as their ability to form developed, reasoned and sustained answers to some of the controversies surrounding Germany history in the first half of the Twentieth Century.
