We are very lucky to have two Foreign Language Assistants working alongside us every year; one French-speaking and one German speaking. The Assistants (otherwise known as FLAs) are employed from October through to May and work for 12 hours a week with pupils through all Key Stages, including the Moorlands Sixth Form. The Foreign Language Assistants are normally university students, studying English.
Within the department, the assistants work inside the classroom alongside the MFL teachers, producing powerpoints informing pupils about themselves and their family and their local area, as well traditional events linked to festivals, such as Christmas and Easter.
Outside of the classroom they work with small groups of pupils, with the aim of improving pupils’ understanding of the spoken language as well as improving their confidence and competence at speaking a Foreign Language.
We are always very grateful for the authentic materials provided by the assistants, as well the crucial support they provide to both pupils and staff within the MFL department.
