MFL and YOUR future

There are lots and lots of opportunities for people who have the ability to communicate in one or more foreign language(s).  However, languages alone (unless you want to become a teacher or a translator) are not enough!  Have a look at the attached PowerPoint to see what sort of opportunities are available for study at universities.

When it comes to jobs, British nationals are being left behind.  Many companies have turned to mainland Europe, where students are compelled to learn English and in many cases another European language as well.

Companies are not looking for perfect linguists.  They are, however, looking for people who have the ability to communicate and to empathise with people in other parts of the world.  When you learn a language, you also learn about other cultures (this is also part of your citizenship education), which can prove really valuable in the world of work.

If you want to find out about the opportunities that are out there for people with some ability in a language, speak to your MFL teacher and ask them about things that they have done before they became teachers.  Ask them about the possibilities and the opportunities that exist in the "real world".  Speak to the assistants as well.
