Joshua Barker and Martha Sowter- Pupils at Painsley Catholic College have been selected to represent the Staffordshire Moorlands as Young Ambassadors. Their role is to help promote the benefits of high quality Physical Education and regular physical activity and they will be assisting the SSCo and PLT’s within the Painsley Cluster. Their role is to represent the Staffordshire Moorlands schools at the conference in September and bring new ideas into the cluster. I wish them well in their new role.

Step into Sports Mentors

Give a bit back to sport and become a sports volunteer

Four pupils from the Moorlands Sixth Form have been selected to be Step into Sport mentors; a new initiative up and running in the Moorlands. This meant pupils had to apply for the post, attend an interview and then be given a placement. All pupils have previous experience of leadership in sport as they have completed the JSLA and CSLA leadership awards. All pupils have been volunteering to help coach at local clubs and have logged many hours over the year. They are just awaiting to receive their certificates.

    Gymnastics at Painsley

Painsley Catholic College hosted its annual gymnastics festival this week to packed crowds of parents, students and friends. The festival consisted of displays of floor work and vaulting from students ranging from Year 7 to sixth formers. A total of more than 200 students took part in the festival.

The students had rehearsed for months to perfect routines, performing to musical numbers including ‘Simply The Best’ and Flashdance’. Mr Darren Bullock, Head of PE at the school, commented, “The three nights were fantastic successes. The students worked hard and showed their skills perfectly and entertained the audience all night. Many thanks to all those who took part. We would also like to thank the coaches, Mr Gary Watson, Mrs Jane Fallows and Mr Nick Fearett and especially Miss Zoe Fallows who created and choreographed many of the dance routines”.

    Girls' Football Success

The Under13 Girls football team from Painsley Catholic College competed in the Port Vale Community Cup. The girls were up against strong competition but successfully won their league putting them through to the semi-finals. They were victorious and won 3-0 putting them into the final. They came across St Margaret Ward and nothing could separate the two sides at full time resulting in a penalty shoot-out. It was all square at 2 each and it was up to the last penalty taker for each side to clinch the tournament. Fortunately the opposition missed and Painsley scored sending them through to the Area finals.

The Finals took place at Dimensions Leisure Centre. The girls represented Port Vale wearing the first team kit and played against other area winners. They topped their league and went through to the semi-finals where they narrowly lost but all together a great achievement getting that far!

Year 7 Futsal teams recently competed in the South Moorlands Futsal Tournament at Cheadle Leisure Centre. The girls won all their games and finished top of the league and have gone through to the county finals which will take place on 21st May in Birmingham.Well done and good luck girls!!

    Painsley Netball Results

Painsley Catholic College under 16’s netball team has achieved exceptional results whilst at the College. The team consists of Charlotte Leyland, Sally Ann Dunn, Dominique Wright, Lucy Maddox, Rebecca Mountford, Jessica Gallimore, Sarah Barks, Bethany Hall, Molly Boughey and Eleanor Smith. During the last 5 years they remain unbeaten in the Staffordshire Moorlands Tournaments and have won the Moorlands League each year. This year, the girls performed superbly at the District Tournament which won them a place at the Regional finals where they represented Staffordshire Schools. The College is extremely proud of all the girls who have an excellent attitude and commitment to the sport. Sally Ann Dunn is currently playing with the Women’s Regional Premier Squad, Linden, and has already been awarded ‘Player of the Game’. She has a very promising future in netball and we wish her all the best.

The Year 7 netball team has made an outstanding start to Painsley Netball as they have yet to be beaten in any game, making them the winners of the Staffordshire Moorlands Schools Netball League and Tournament. The team, consisting of Katie Maya, Brittany Allen, Isabel Wretham, Hannah Newman, Eleanor Degg, Chantelle Barks, Charlotte Wood and Emily Hall, show a great deal of talent and will hopefully be as successful as the under 16’s team.
