Pupils are encouraged to spend their spare time either at lunch time or after school in the department working on their project work. This open access policy is essential for pupils who may not have suitable facilities at home to complete work, especially when it comes to making their products. The department is a busy place with many students using the opportunities on offer outside lesson times.
Students are encouraged to take the opportunity of going on visits and becoming involved with other activities such as the School’s Science and Engineering Club. The Science and Engineering Club is for year 8 and 9 students and is an opportunity to develop and extend their knowledge and understanding of engineering and design. We have built an electric car in response to the Greenpower Competition and are now looking to develop a lighter, faster and more efficient car. This is a challenge for students as it is involves a number of complex and taxing problems.
