Presentation Evening at Painsley

Painsley Catholic College was proud to hold its annual Presentation Evening on Wednesday 28th March. Students received awards that celebrated academic progress and special endeavour, as well as sporting colours and music awards. The prizes were presented to students by Dr Steven Rayner, Phyisicist and Admissions Tutor, Somerville College, Oxford University.  Special subject awards were presented to Year 11 as well as many other awards. Parents packed the school hall to see their children receive recognition of their efforts and join in the celebrations. Of special note were the awards to Emily Scarlett for Work in the Community; Daniella Clee and Katie Jones, Citizenship Award; Kirsty Morrey, Diana, Princess of Wales Award and PTA Award for Charitable Works; Madalaine Forrester for Contribution to Life at Painsley; William Pickford, School Spirit Award and Rhianne Sutton, Chaplain’s Award. Another special award for Outstanding Achievement was awarded to Emma Robinson. Emma is polite, conscientious, meticulous, well presented and highly motivated. Emma is always keen to improve her work to the highest standards. She is working at A* grades in all subjects and if there were a grade higher than the A* Emma would achieve it. Emma has completely fulfilled her role as senior prefect this year and is a model student in every way. Emma has accepted the offer of further study at Moorlands College next year, and whoever sees Emma’s name on their register will be exceptionally pleased to be receiving this calibre of student. Painsley Girls' Win Cricket Title

Painsley Girls' Win Cricket Title
The U13 girls’ cricket team from Painsley Catholic College entered the North Staffordshire County Tournament this month.   The team won all their games and retained the title of U13 North Staffordshire County Champions and now go through to the County Final against the winners of the South team. The girls have regained the title for the third year running and we congratulate them on this fantastic achivement.

Painsley Crowned Rugby Champions

Painsley Crowned Rugby Champions
The Painsley Catholic College Year 8 rugby team were crowned Staffordshire Moorlands champions after being undefeated in the tournament. The students played in a total of five matches, winning four and drawing one. The team started off slow in the first game but grew in character as time went on and achieved a draw. This appeared to boost the players and, as a result, they won all of their remaining four fixtures to finish in first place. It was a superb display by all of the students involved in the team.

Students Collect for the Needy

Students Collect for the Needy
Painsley Catholic College focussed upon charity work this week as it enjoyed its annual Harvest festival; students having collected food and distributed it to people in the local community. The festival falls in line with the annual Family Fast Day, where some students participated in a twenty-four hour fast for CAFOD, a charity committed to helping developing countries. The school raised more than £300 for this worthy cause.

Students receive their Gideons’ Bibles
Year 7 students at Painsley Catholic College were recently presented with a copy of the New Testament from the Gideons’ International Society. The Gideons’ Society distributed the Bibles to help share the Christian message and recognises the importance of placing a Bible into the hands of individuals. Each student in Year 7 received a Book for their own personal use and new members of Staff also received a Bible from Mr & Mrs Egerton.

Pastoral Morning at Painsley
On Wednesday 5th October students from Painsley Catholic College took part in a Pastoral/Citizenship morning, exploring themes related to the Citizenship and PSHE curriculum. Year 7 students explored Democracy and during the morning held Year Council elections to enable all students to participate. Year 8 students explored the work of charities and welcomed a speaker from the Donna Louise Trust to explain how charities operate. Students went on to explore charities and devise active citizenship programmes to support the work of charities. Year 9 students explored themes related to human rights looking at the holocaust, in preparation for a Year group visit to Beth Shalom, the holocaust Centre. Year 10 students focused on International Humanitarian law working through issues related to asylum, landmines and war. Year 11students were working on applications and CV, whilst preparing themselves for the future and the world of work. The morning was a huge success and enabled students to explore vital issues related to themselves and their future in society.

Annual Celebration Evening at Painsley 2011
Painsley Catholic College celebrated its record breaking recent GCSE successes at its annual Celebration Evening for last year’s Year 11. This summer 99% of students achieved 5 or more of the higher A*-C grades at GCSE and 82% achieved 5 or more of the higher grades including English and Mathematics. Students from last year’s Year 11 were invited back to receive their Progress files containing their GCSE certificates as a celebration of their successes. Other certificates presented included BTEC Music, BTEC Sport and Asdan. The certificates were presented by Mrs Patricia Hissey, Head of Year. Particular congratulations were given to many students who were recognised for outstanding effort and achievement at GCSE. All students were commended for their attitude and successes. In particular the students were congratulated on their participation in school events, their contributions to school life and their support for each other during their years at Painsley. The students made outstanding progress during their years at Painsley.

Student Starts His Own Business
A Painsley Catholic College student has been an inspiration to many people by starting his own farming business. Oakley Whilock, Year 10, is currently studying his GCSEs and has a lot of work on his hands already, but all of this isn’t enough for the young farmer. Oakley wants to be independent and make a future inspiring others. ‘Rhea’s of Staffordshire’ is the young farmer’s investment. It consists of ducklings, chickens and rheas which are part of the emu family. It all started three years ago when his dad gave him the responsibility of 16 acres of farming land; Oakley was given start-up capital to the value of £1000 from his grandparents who have farming land of their own. Last year’s turnover was about £6,000 and he’s hoping to increase this considerably with the figure at £16,000 this year. Oakley has increased his stock levels to increase sales which would generate more profit. In the summer everyone in the Year group has a summer holiday and relaxation, this young farmer’s summer gets even harder. This gives him the opportunity to get more animals bred and sold. All of his hard work deserves recognition and we shall see how he goes on as the year progresses. Hopefully Oakley can make a successful future from what he loves to do. This proves that nothing is impossible if you put your mind to it, Oakley shows that it can be done with effort and motivation. It is great to see the College’s enterprise…

New Year New Website

New Year New Website
With the start of the 2011 - 2012 academic year, Painsley is launching its new website. The previous website, launched in 2007, brought the school a wide array of features such as enabling departments to edit content, the provision of a large easy to use gallery and the colleges own in house purpose built VLE. The new site will have all of these features and a completley new look. We would love some feedback after the launch!

Painsley has been Virtualised
The summer holidays has seen a major upgrade of the college computer network system with the replacement of 10 servers with two large machines which will vastly improve the capability of the network. It will result in faster network speeds, more stability and security and greatly reduced running costs.
