MFL Trips 2016 – Spain
We left the bus park at around 3.00am on a drizzly Monday morning but spirits were high as we knew it wouldn’t be long before we were basking in the red hot sun. With a delay of approximately 30 minutes, our flight made good time and incorporated some stunning views. On arrival at the hotel, we dropped off our luggage and strolled along Las Ramblas up to the Plaça Catalunya and further on to admire the Gaudi architecture. Finally, we had dinner in a fabulous buffet restaurant and returned to the hotel absolutely exhausted after a very full day!
What a packed day! After our breakfast at the hotel we got the coach to Parc Guell. Trying our best to wear them out before lunch, we walked up and down through stone arches and shaded groves taking in the beautiful views of Barcelona and the Mediterranean.
After lunch we visited the Gothic Quarter of the city including the Picasso muesem, Gothic cathedral and picturesque side streets. Many tried out their Spanish buying drinks, slushies and ice creams. Needless to say it was another hot, hot day in Catalunya.
Following this off we went to visit La Sagrada Familia, Gaudi’s impressive cathedral. The architecture is stunning and the inside is truest remarkable. You could spend hours there and still not notice all the fine carving details or intricate stained glass colouring. It certainly made a big impression on the students.
Dinner was at the Port and was well received! Salads, pasta, pizza, roast chicken and frozen yogurt aplenty. Then, following some shopping time at a shopping centre we walked to the beach to end our evening.
By now we were all worn out. So, after a saunter back down La Rambla to the hotel and a quick freshen-up, bed time…sleep time…buenas noches.
Another packed day!
Stop 1: Nou Camp Stadium
We enjoyed the Nou Camp museum and experience, marvelled at the pitch and saw inside the away team’s changing rooms, the press conference area and finally visited the three-storey shop full of very expensive items!
Stop 2: Montjuic Castle
We enjoyed some stunning views from the fortresses of the castle, located high up in the city, followed by a cool down at the fountain.
Stop 3: MNAC Museum
We explored the Romanesque area of the art museum and then proceeded to the terrace where the views of the whole city were spectacular.
Stop 4: Boquería Market
We sampled the delights of this indoor market where students tasted fresh fruit selections and an array of delicious local produce, all before our dinner!
Stop 5: Dinner
Dinner was particularly special tonight as we celebrated Louise’s 14th birthday and wished Mrs Davis good luck for the future.
The final day of our trip was spent at Port Aventura theme park, where students waited patiently in queues to go on some thrilling rides in the baking heat. We arrived back at the port for dinner and some final bits of shopping in the Mare Magnum shopping centre before heading back to the hotel to pack our cases ready for an early departure tomorrow morning. Buenas noches!
