The Bridge to Success
Painsley 6th Form will provide a bridge to higher education and apprenticeships. All students will experience the tutorial system, which reflects university style learning. The wide range of societies will enrich student experience and skills in readiness for their future pathway.
All students will have access to Unifrog, a platform where students can explore the link between their interests, different qualifications and subjects, and careers. Using Unifrog will allow students to compare every undergraduate programme taught in English around the world. Students are primed to make successful applications through finding the most appropriate MOOCs (online learning courses that develop new academic and employment skills) and building bespoke Reading Lists. Students record their competencies, then write strong statements and CVs whilst personal tutors are simultaneously writing individual references that feed into the platform. Furthermore, the platform enables students to make strategic choices about the best courses and colleges to apply to at both Russell Group and Oxford and Cambridge universities
Students wishing to apply to Oxford or Cambridge University are given individual support from the beginning of Year 12 in developing their academic and personal profile for their future personal statement. Former Sixth Form students who have studied at Oxford or Cambridge lead information workshops to Year 12 students regarding the entry process to the universities and there will be a visit to either Oxford or Cambridge University during Year 12. We are intending to offer the Cambridge pre-U short courses to Year 12 from Easter 2018 which will further enhance the academic profile and skillset alongside the Level 3 extended project that will be completed by December 2018. Both qualifications are highly regarded by Oxford and Cambridge universities and will ensure that our students stand out against other applicants. From the outset of Year 12, departments will provide students with an extensive reading list which potential applicants will be expected to read independently prior to starting their personal statements over the summer.
All potential Oxbridge students are supported through the process of applying to the UNIQ summer schools during Year 12. Oxford and Cambridge universities attend the Sixth Form in the summer term of Year 12 to support potential applicants with starting the UCAS application. During the summer of Year 12 into Year 13, all potential applicants will complete their personal statements with support from the leadership team at Painsley Sixth Form and all applications are sent off at least one week before the UCAS deadline. Once students have received confirmation of their interview at Oxford or Cambridge University, they will have individual practice interviews with the leadership of Painsley Catholic College and subject leaders. In addition, the Sixth Form offers support for the entrance examinations and holds a large bank of Oxbridge questions for students to explore during their enrichment and private study time.
