Celebrating the Feast of the Ascension of the Lord

Back to Latest News

On Thursday 9th May we celebrated the Feast of the Ascension of the Lord. Our Year 9 students attended Holy Mass at St. Giles representing our college community and sharing this wonderful feast day Mass with our Parish family.

As we reflect on the Feast of the Ascension of the Lord we think about and celebrate Christ’s exaltation. While on earth, Jesus was a servant. Now in heaven, He is the ruler and Lord of all. By entering heaven as the representative of mankind, He completed the work of our salvation and guaranteed an eternal home in heaven for us all.

Here are a few comments from our students:

‘Today we went to St. Giles for the Ascension Feast Day Mass. I read the first reading, it made me feel like I was representing the school and chaplaincy crew. The Mass was led beautifully by Fr. Eric and was very engaging for everyone.’

‘Today at Holy Mass I took up the offertory gifts of bread and wine and gave out the Mass leaflets. I really enjoyed being part of Mass and I liked listening to Fr. Eric’s homily which helped me understand more about everlasting life.’

‘I found Holy Mass a wonderful experience and St. Giles is such a beautiful church. It was a privilege to be able to celebrate this special feast day there with my friends.’

I was part of the year 9 students who helped to led Holy Mass for the Feast of the Ascension. I read the bidding prayers, other students helped with leading the singing, prayers and offertory procession. Fr. Eric’s homily made me feel hope for a new eternal life we have through Jesus.

‘It was so lovely to share Holy Mass with our parishioners from St. Giles and St. Thomas’ it felt like one big family.’
