About The Subject:

 

The aims of this specification are to encourage you to:

·   Develop your interest in, and enthusiasm for chemistry

·   Appreciate how society makes decisions about scientific issues and how the sciences contribute to the success of the economy and society

·   Develop and demonstrate a deeper appreciation of the skills, knowledge and understanding of how science works

·   Develop your essential knowledge and understanding of different areas of chemistry and how they relate to each other

Core organic chemistry

Physical chemistry and transitional elements

Organic chemistry and analysis

Assessment: Examination and practical endorsement
College Entry Requirements: Minimum of 5 good grades at GCSE, including English and maths at a strong pass
Subject Specific Requirements: GCSE Chemistry grade A, plus a grade 7 or above in maths. Knowledge of scientific language.
Career Links: Medicine and medical sciences, veterinary science, chemistry, biochemistry, and engineering. The prerequisite for medicine, medical sciences and veterinary science at university is often the majority of GCSE, AS and A levels at grades A & A*.
